Stories from the Kitchen table is our studio based programme of work, working with neurodiverse adults. We work in small groups to create stories through drawing, drama, puppetry and other art forms.

We use drawing and conversation to develop stories and as we talk, we find concerns and issues emerge and the resolution can be found in the resolve of our story. This allows us to explore and challenge ourselves in the safety and support within the group, but also through the fictional depictions and problems that the characters find themselves in.

Stories are fundamental to humans of all ages and cultures. They tell us who we are, give us social boundaries, give us understanding of people and their communities and above all they give us a way to explore our emotions, particularly laughter.

The creative way we share our stories is down to each individual. We are led entirely by them through the creative process. Outcomes have been theatre performances, exhibitions and personal pieces of visual art.

Stories From the Kitchen Table is based at our studio in Wigton and runs Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am to 3pm.

“The kitchen table has a powerful emotion for us. It is where families and friends have gathered on a daily basis to celebrate family events and commiserate in times of loss. In recent times it has become the office, the school and a place for the laptop to face time family and friends throughout covid.”
