Bear and Rat is the current project from Stories from the Kitchen Table.
The story idea came from one of our artists John Lake and has been developed by writer David Napthine working alongside the group.
It takes place in Bear and Rats house in the middle of the woods on hibernation night. Will Mrs Eccles finish the cleaning, will Bears new bed arrive in time, and what is that cheeky fox up to?
Currently the project is in its design and making phase. The group are taking inspiration from Russian artist Yuri Vasnetsov’s illustrations, while designing the characters for the story which will be turned into puppets. You can find out more about his work here: About KapelkiArt | kapelkiart
A performance of the story will be created for Early years with the shows setting inviting the children into Bear and Rats world. The artists will work with musician Mark Newport to develop the musical style of the piece and we are joined by 4th year student Apollo Fea from Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh who is on placement to learn about puppetry making and will make one of the key characters of the show.
