Celebrating Wigton 2023 – 2024

Celebrating Wigton: A Stories from the Kitchen Table project

Celebrating Wigton was an extension of our Stories from the Kitchen Table project funded through The National Lottery People’s project, in which we were a runner up and awarded £10,000 to work with communities in Wigton.

The project worked with two year groups at St. Cuthberts R.C Primary School, Wigton,  The Wigton Food Pantry and Inglewood care home, developing stories of Wigton and exploring its History.

Using this work the school then worked with two artists, Helen Walsh and Alex Jakob-Whitworth, to creatively interpret their stories and local history. They have explored printing, embroidery, and other visual arts to create board games, handmade paper, the streets of Wigton and Beetles inspired by Wigton’s old English name.

These were all brought together in an exhibition at Barton Laws, Wigton as part of the 25th Wigton Carnival.
